Imagine miniature robots that are ingested into your stomach, move to the desired wound and actually fix it. The behaviour ranges from removing a foreign agent from the difficult cavity in your body or deliver a drug at a precise location. Or imagine a future with tourism in space. Sounds like fiction but such tech innovation more plausible in the near future. Let’s see how!
1. Nano Technology
Nano Technology, the term given to the process of developing miniature circuits on a nanometre (nm) scale. Potential uses of such nano-bots can also be sent to space for low-cost repair operations. A small, cost-efficient and a controllable bot can endless implementations. Ingestible robots are a tech innovation that we can look out for in the near future.
Ingestible Robots – Ingestible Robots can be one of the most crucial tech innovation of the 21st century. Created out of fabricated composite materials, these miniature robots can actually emulate the behaviour of biological organs.
Ingestible Robots are less instructive and less intimidating than procedures such as endoscopy which are often painful and extremely nerving for the majority of the population. In case of delivering medicines to often precise areas, say in the case of cancer treatment – chemotherapy often kill healthy cells along with cancerous one. If ingestible robots can develop to a point that they could present targeted drug delivery, that could certainly revolutionise treatments that require precise drug delivery.
GlaxoSmithKline, a healthcare giant is already developing “electroceuticals”, nanobots that could function easily in the human body. Other companies that make use of nanotechnology includes Zymergen, Ginkgo Bioworks and Synthase.
Nanoscale Materials – Nano Technology’s other implementations involve creating nanoscale films and nanoscale materials to create anti-reflective, self-cleaning and smart fabrics. This can be used to equip electronics with nanosensors to monitor various metrics such as health and energy.
2. Space Economy
Enter Elon Musk and space economy is now a buzz word. However, interest from high profile influencers like Jeff Bezos has created an industry which is worth a multi-billion dollars now. Space Economy encompasses commercial space tourism and public-private partnerships for new entrepreneurial space programmes.
Bank of America has already predicted that the space industry will surmount to least $2.7 trillion by the next three decades.
Reusable Rockets – SpaceX, a private firm that hopes to provide sustainable reusable space rockets has already garnered investment by more than 80 countries. SpaceX is looking to emulate commercial airliners which can refuel and have multiple flights every day.
SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket cuts the fuel cost by 96.4% to around $200,000—about 0.4% of the total.
Entry of the World’s Richest Man – Since founding his rocket company i.e. ‘Blue Origin’ quietly back in 2000, the billionaire has been focusing on improving ‘New Shepard’ – the reusable rocket that aims to take tourists into space. He also plans to debut it in 2021 with main focus on reusing the most expensive part of the rocket i.e. the booster. He even announced that he will sell around $1 billion of his stock in Amazon to fund the project.
Last week, he announced that his company Blue Origin will start developing a moon lander that will transport cargo and astronauts to the lunar surface by 2024.
3. Analytics Driven or Predictive Hiring
What if a company can predict and identify key trends in employee engagement and hiring. Predictive analytics is another upcoming tech innovation that is powered by AI and machine learning. Based on digital tools that include statistical modelling and data analytics, it is getting easier to predict key inferences from the data available.
This is done through data-driven recruiting software, psychometric testing and automation. These tools can predict personality traits and work habits, learning to a much accurate hire for a role.
JetBlue – A low-cost US airline, JetBlue used predictive hiring to reduce attrition rates among call centre employees and called for a hiring assessment using analytic-driven hiring. The result was that the company saw attrition drop by 25%.
Zappos – Zappos, an online giant revamped its pre-selection process resulting in a 97% approval of a positive experience in the new application process. This was all done with modules of predictive hiring.
Wells Fargo – A well known financial services MNC headquartered in the US wanted new specially customised hiring solution. They turned to predictive hiring to cater to their very unique culture. Retention rates for teller increased by 15% whereas the number was 12% for personal bankers at the firm.
The software was also able to predict success indicators for the future to create new proactive recruiting efforts through tech innovation.
4. Bionic Technology
From human limbs to human sight and much more, Bionic technology is changing how humans function in the 21st century. Bionic technology is the intersection of engineering, motor mechanics and nanotechnology.
Bionic enhancement is usually prevalent in the case of defective human body parts. It helps restore physical deformities and increases the quality of life by leap and bounds. Over the last decade, it has emerged as one of the leading areas which promise great breakthrough developments.
Bionic Prosthetics – Prosthetics were science fiction until the last decade. However, today bionic prosthetics i.e. limbs are becoming mainstream for many amputees and proving to be a miracle.
